Colwyn Bay remembers

This morning Colwyn Bay joined towns and villages across the whole of Wales to pay respects to fallen heroes from wars and conflicts around the world.

From 10 o'clock local people of all ages gathered at the War Memorial in Queen Gardens to hear a special Remembrance Day Service.

The commeration marked by a two minute silence at 11am was attended by local dignatries, ex-service and serving men and women along with local scouts, guides, army and sea cadets from the town. The serving Bay of Colwyn Mayor Cllr Neil Baistow laid a wreath as a mark of respect.

Remembrance Sunday is always held on the second Sunday in November each year and tomorrow (Monday 11th November, many will pause once again to mark Armistice Day 101 years since the end of World War I.

At 11am a two minute silence will mark the fallen on the day in 1918 that agreement between the Allies and Germany to stop fighting marked victory for the Allies and defeat for Germany.

Last year in Colwyn Bay on the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, a giant portrait of Welsh soldier and poet Hedd Wyn was sculptured onto the beach at Porth Eirias.
