North Wales coast set to enjoy much warmer weekend

North Wales could be in line for a welcome spell of warmer weather this weekend as forecasters predict temperatures will begin to rise following a cool and unsettled start to June.

The Met Office says Atlantic weather systems will continue to bring showers and longer spells of rain across Wales during the first half of the week, with temperatures remaining slightly below average for the time of year. Some showers could be heavy and thundery, particularly over higher ground, while brisk winds are expected to affect coastal areas.

However, forecasters are increasingly confident that conditions will improve as the week progresses, with higher pressure expected to build across parts of the UK.

The Met Office’s latest long-range forecast suggests drier and more settled weather could become more dominant from the second week of June, with temperatures gradually climbing above seasonal averages. While western and northwestern areas may continue to see some rain at times, warmer air is expected to spread across England and Wales.

For North Wales, this could mean a noticeable change from the cool conditions experienced at the start of this week.

Coastal communities including Rhyl, Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno are likely to benefit from brighter spells and lighter winds, although temperatures along the coast will typically remain a few degrees lower than those recorded inland due to the cooling influence of the Irish Sea.

Current forecasts indicate temperatures could rise into the high teens and low twenties by the weekend, offering a more summery feel after several days of showers and below-average temperatures. Inland parts of the region are expected to see the warmest conditions.

The improving outlook follows an exceptionally warm spring. The Met Office recently confirmed that spring 2026 was the warmest on record for England and Wales and the third warmest for the UK as a whole.

While forecasters are stopping short of predicting a heatwave for North Wales, the latest outlook points towards increasingly settled weather and the possibility of very warm spells developing later in June if high pressure remains dominant.

For now, residents are being advised to keep an umbrella close at hand for the next few days, but there are growing signs that summer may soon be making a return to the North Wales coast.
