North Wales law firm snaps up top property lawyer

Swayne Johnson, which has offices in Llandudno, St. Asaph, Ruthin, Denbigh, Mold and Tattenhall, has appointed Geraint Williams as a senior associate.

The firm says the move comes after a steady rise in commercial property transactions since the Covid pandemic, as companies invest in new premises or move to larger sites.

Mr Williams, 34, who grew up in Blaenau Ffestiniog, studied law at Aberystwyth University and has experience working in both the public and private sectors. His previous roles include positions with housing association ClwydAlyn and Gwynedd Council.

He will work alongside director Llyr Williams as the firm looks to expand the capacity of its commercial property department.

Llyr Williams said demand for legal advice linked to business property had continued to grow in the years since the pandemic.

“Everyone was wondering what effect Covid would have on business confidence but in our experience it’s just become busier and busier in commercial property,” he said.

“We have been looking to expand and Geraint has come along at the right time. His work history was exactly what we were looking for and he brings added depth to what we can offer our clients.

“We are trusted by some big companies in North Wales and beyond and Geraint will bring added experience and expertise to local and regional businesses who are looking to expand.”

Mr Williams said commercial property law had always appealed to him during his studies and he enjoys helping companies grow.

“There’s a lot of satisfaction in helping a business expand by taking on new or larger premises,” he said. “You know you’re playing a part in that growth, which can also mean new job opportunities here in North Wales.”

Away from work he has been heavily involved with community projects in Blaenau Ffestiniog, including more than a decade with local enterprise group Antur Stiniog.

The group has been working to revitalise the town centre by purchasing derelict buildings and redeveloping them into new shops with flats above.

“We’re trying to buck the trend of decline on the high street,” he said. “It’s a long-term project but it’s moving in the right direction and it’s good to be involved in something that’s bringing life and opportunities back to the town.”

Mr Williams is also a keen sports fan and captain of the Blaenau Ffestiniog crown green bowls club. He is a regular supporter of the Wales national football team and often travels abroad with friends to follow the side.

Swayne Johnson managing director Lynette Viney-Passig said the appointment reflected the firm’s continuing growth.

“We’re delighted to welcome another high-calibre appointment as we expand the services we offer to clients,” she said.

“Commercial property and business law are key areas for many of our clients, and having that expertise locally means companies across North Wales don’t have to look outside the region for the legal support they need.”
