A new leadership team has been appointed to help steer a major £20 million investment programme for the Tudno and Mostyn areas of Llandudno.
The UK Government’s Pride in Place programme will see up to £20 million invested into the community over the next decade, with residents set to play a central role in deciding how the funding is spent and which local priorities it supports.
Bangor Aberconwy MP Claire Hughes and Conwy County Borough Council leader Julie Fallon led the process to appoint an independent chair and vice chair for the new Neighbourhood Board.
Former Welsh Guardsman Jim Jones has been appointed as Chair. Currently Managing Director of North Wales Tourism, he brings significant board-level experience and a background in developing and delivering neighbourhood plans.
Joining him as Vice Chair is Jayne Black, manager of TÅ· Hapus Community Resource Centre in Tudno ward. She has more than 30 years’ experience supporting local residents through community initiatives including food banks, baby banks and wider neighbourhood support projects.
The appointments mark the latest stage in the development of the Pride in Place programme. The pair will now help establish the wider Neighbourhood Board alongside local residents, businesses, organisations and community representatives to shape a long-term investment plan for the area.
Key milestones for the programme are expected to include the establishment of Neighbourhood Boards this spring, confirmation of final board membership and further community engagement over the summer, submission of investment plans to the UK Government in winter 2026, and the expected start of delivery funding in spring 2027.
Claire Hughes said she was “delighted” that both had agreed to take on the roles.
She said: “Both bring a huge amount of experience, strong local knowledge and a real understanding of the Tudno and Mostyn communities.
“We received a strong level of interest in these positions, which says a lot about the commitment people have to the area and its future.
“This £20 million investment from this UK Labour Government is about making sure local people have a genuine say over the future of their area.”
The Pride in Place programme has been developed by the UK Government to give communities greater control over local investment decisions, with Conwy County Borough Council initially acting as the accountable body while the board is established.
