Llandudno Lifeboat Station has announced that volunteer crew member John Gill has successfully passed his Launch Authority plan, completing the final step required to take on this vital operational role.
John underwent his assessment last week under the supervision of Coastal Lifeboat Trainer Simon Bunting.
The pass out involves a demanding two and a half hour shore based evaluation designed to test a candidate’s understanding of RNLI policies, station procedures, SOPs, and their ability to make sound decisions in realistic emergency scenarios. The assessment ensures that every Launch Authority is fully prepared for the pressures of real time lifeboat deployment.
The Launch Authority is central to lifeboat operations, responsible for coordinating with the coastguard, deciding which lifeboat to launch, and supporting or deputising for the Lifeboat Operations Manager when required.
John joined the RNLI earlier this year and has already shown impressive dedication to his training. With intensive weekly sessions led mainly by Launch Authority Alun Pari Huws, along with two online workshops, he has taken on a substantial volume of knowledge in a short timeframe. His commitment and steady approach have stood out throughout the process.
Llandudno Lifeboat Station is delighted to welcome John into his new role and is confident he will be a valuable addition to the operational team.
