A tram trip treat for local residents this weekend

The Great Orme Tramway will host its first ever Community Weekend event to thank local residents for their support of this much-loved local attraction.

Residents of Conwy County will be able to claim half price entry to the attraction this weekend (19 and 20 October).

Anyone who can prove they live in Conwy County will be entitled to take up the deal at the Llandudno attraction. The offer can be used for up to six people per address.

Tramway officials say they hope to reconnect with people who have not visited the attraction for some years and to remind them that they are there.

Neil Jones, Tramway Manager said: “Because we are on people’s doorsteps they tend to forget we are here.

“Local people may have visited some years ago and not been since, but it’s such a lovely experience to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the ride through such spectacular scenery.”

Cllr Greg Robbins, Cabinet member for Environment and Transportation said: “The Tramway has been an important part of Llandudno since 1902 and has a rich history. Hopefully we’ll see some return visits from local residents and even more recommendations.”

Each year the Tramway carries around 200,000 passengers to the 679ft summit of the Great Orme. The Great Orme Country Park has something for everyone, with a variety of walking trails and a visitor centre, a mini golf course and play area, and spectacular views across Snowdonia.

Tram passengers can also stop off halfway to visit the Great Orme Mines before continuing to the summit.

Return tickets for the weekend offer will be £4.05 for adults and just £2.80 for children aged 3 - 15. Children under three will get free entry as usual. The offer will be given to anyone with proof of residency in Conwy County, such as a driving licence or utility bill.

The Tramway is open from 10am until 5pm, with the last return tram departing from Victoria Station at 4.20pm.

There is a pay and display car park on York Road, just a short walk away from Victoria Station.
