A thriving Performing Arts Academy for young people aged four to 18 has now set up its base in Colwyn Bay.

The prestigious Pauline Quirke Performing Arts Academy, which was previously held at a facility in Llandudno, has opened at Rydal Penrhos School.

Led by a fantastic team of teachers with specialist industry experience and knowledge, PQA Conwy students learn and develop skills in Comedy and Drama (acting), Musical Theatre (singing and dancing), in addition to Film and Television on a weekly basis.

The Academy will be using Rydal Penrhos’ outstanding facilities for the foreseeable future and is further indication of the high esteem the school is held from a Performing Arts perspective across the region and beyond.

PQA Conwy’s Principal April Herzog has been working as an actress since graduating from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts with a Masters in Acting (Distinction) in 2008.

This includes roles in both theatre and film, and her educational work has taken Mrs Herzog all over the world - from a convent in Italy to the British Embassy in Dubai.

Mrs Herzog, said: “Having worked professionally in the performing arts industry I know all too well the pressures society can put on us all – and particularly on young people - to conform to an ideal.

“Yet in my experience it has always been my very uniqueness, my individuality that has landed me a role, and finally brought me here to PQA Conwy.

“Here at PQA Conwy, we hope to nurture every one of our students' individuality, so that every young person is empowered to embrace their uniqueness.”

Classes take place every Saturday from 9.45am until 1pm, with a Poppets session (4-5yrs) held from 10-11.30am.
