A symbol of hope and solidarity in the battle against Covid-19

A powerful symbol of hope and solidarity has washed over Llandudno and the surrounding community as Venue Cymru prepares to help in the battle against Coronavirus.

The popular venue which normally at this time of the year would be preparing to host some of the country's top stage and music productions has been converted into a temporary hospital joining similar ones in Bangor and Queensferry.

The hospital at Venue Cymru will be known as Ysbyty'r Enfis or in English 'Rainbow Hospital'. Medics and engineers from Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board have been working hard during the past two weeks to get the building prepared should it be needed.

Ysbyty'r Enfys - translated into English means Rainbow Hospital after the symbolic nature of hope and solidarity that North Wales communities are holding onto.

The rainbow is seen to be an optimistic symbol which school children and communities have been including on posters and drawings in schools and at home and on placards supporting our heroes working in the NHS..

Iwan Davies, Chief Executive of Conwy County Borough Council said: “We’re proud to be supporting our colleagues in BCUHB at this very challenging time.  Giving the temporary hospital a name may seem like a small action but it’s important to give the facility a clear identity suitable for its new use."
