Aberconwy AM holds meeting to hear residents’ concerns

Aberconwy Member of the Senedd, Janet Finch-Saunders, hosted a public meeting at Llandudno Town Hall last Friday, giving local residents the opportunity to raise concerns directly with elected officials and the police.

The meeting was attended by the Mayor, Cllr Antony Bartola, local councillors Jackie Thurley and Harry Saville, and police representatives including Inspector Mathew Kelly-Smith and Sergeant Paul Cassidy.

Speaking after the meeting, Mrs. Finch-Saunders said the event provided a valuable forum to discuss issues affecting the community. Among the concerns raised were anti-social behaviour, council tax increases, and difficulties accessing GP appointments.

Residents reported problems with gatherings causing intimidation in certain areas and the persistent smell of drugs. Police representatives provided guidance on reporting incidents through webchat and encouraged engagement with local PCSOs. Mrs. Finch-Saunders emphasised that reporting incidents helps the police take informed and targeted action.

The meeting also highlighted issues with business rates relief for local holiday lets. Ms Finch-Saunders said delays in processing applications for properties meeting the 182-day threshold were leaving local tourism businesses “worse off financially” and called for urgent action to support the sector.

“Public meetings are a brilliant opportunity for us, as elected officials, to hear directly from our residents about the issues that are impacting them,” she said. “It was a very successful meeting, and I look forward to addressing the challenges raised.”
