Bay scenes boost award-winning Amazon Prime film

South Manchester-based Silver Screen Community Film Studios CIC is celebrating international acclaim for their debut feature film The Silver Screen Dreams Café, which has recently won multiple awards at global film festivals and is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Part of the film was shot in Colwyn Bay, capturing the charm of North Wales alongside its South Manchester locations.

The Silver Screen Dreams Café tells the uplifting story of how a small town is transformed through a shared passion for amateur filmmaking.

The North Wales scenes bring the community story closer to local audiences, highlighting landmarks and locations familiar to residents.

Filmmakers Mike & Rebecca Peacock worked with over 250 residents from Wythenshawe, Manchester, leading workshops in acting and filmmaking for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences — many with no previous creative opportunities.

The project was about learning new skills, building confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging, culminating in participation as cast and crew for the feature.

Sue Whitton, a participant in the project, described her experience: “Seeing my name on screen as ‘Susan Whitton – actor’ on North West Tonight was life-changing. A year earlier, I didn’t feel I belonged anywhere. Now I feel confident, valued, and part of something incredible.”

Despite a modest budget, The Silver Screen Dreams Café has won multiple festival awards, praised for heartfelt storytelling, inventive charm, and a bold DIY spirit.

One reviewer wrote: "It doesn't take long to acknowledge the passion and care invested in making this film... a heartfelt, feel-good film with likeable and charming characters."The film’s North Wales sequences, showcasing Colwyn Bay and the surrounding area, bring additional richness to the story, creating a visual connection for local audiences.

The studio is now launching its next feature, Oggy Christmas, a feel-good festive comedy about community, redemption, and the true spirit of Christmas.

Writer-director Mike Peacock explains: “We’re not just making a movie; we’re creating opportunities. With Oggy Christmas, we hope to involve even more people and communities, including North Wales, giving them the chance to shine on screen.”

A community Crowdfunder campaign is live, offering rewards such as premiere invites, exclusive props, and the chance to appear in the film. Local businesses are also invited to sponsor or get involved.
