Body recovered after man lost to Conwy Valley floods

North Wales Police have broke the desperately sad news about the dicovery of a man's body following the floods in the Conwy Valley which began yesterday.

On Saturday it was reported that a massive search was underway after a local man walking his dog was swept away by the flood water which quickly enveloped the area around Trefriw.

Following extensive searches involving rescue helicopter, police, the fire service and volunteers from Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team, the teams were unable to locate the man.

Today, North Wales Police broke the news that a body had been discovered. Whilst formal identification is still to take place, the family of 75 year old Brian Perry have been informed. Mr. Perry's dog was located safely on Saturday.

Samantha Eglestaff from the Llanrwst Flood Action Group expressed her sorrow on behalf on the community. She said:

"Our hearts and thoughts go to his family. He was just walking his dog, as many of us do, but he was unaware of the flood risk.

"There needs to be urgent action for effective, well-lit, ‘flood and life risk’ signage at major flooding points in our catchment.

"Our local people have learnt over time, of the life-risks between Trefriw and Llanrwst, but tourists do not have this knowledge. Perhaps, so very sadly, this loss of life could have been avoided. It’s a very sad day."
