Mark Drakeford has announced he will stand down as Welsh Labour leader in March.
In a move that took many commentators by surprise, the move now leaves an election open to appoint a new leader before Easter.
Whilst Mr. Drakeford revealed his intention not to stand as leader in 2024 after five years of service, few expected the announcement to come 5 years and 1 day after he was confirmed as First Minister of Wales.
