Cabinet Member sends best wishes as Conwy exam results come in

Cllr Julie Fallon, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education began the day by wishing all local students well with their exam results.

She said “It’s my pleasure to congratulate all our learners in Conwy on their achievements in this year’s A and AS level results.

“Again this year I would like to thank schools, teachers and support staff for their professionalism and dedication to all learners in Conwy, and to all learners who have worked so hard to achieve their results this year.

“As they move on to further education, training and their future careers I wish them all the very best.”

In a year when results nationally should be going down, Ysgol John Bright students bucked the trend with outstanding results this year. Over half of their year 13 gained at least one A*/A grade with a phenomenal 15% of the year 13 cohort gaining at least three A* or A grades.

Headteacher Hywel Parry commented “We believe Ysgol John Bright is a place to find your future and that is certainly the case for these amazing students receiving their results today including 90% of our university applicants who have gained their first choice university place.  We are so proud that the students’ hard work and the dedication of our staff  has paid off.”

Notable successes include Daniel Mitchell, one of school's student presidents with 3A*2A and will study Biochemistry at the University of Manchester.

Jess Sutton with 4A* is now taking a gap year. The school's other student president Kyria Houghton gained 3A*1A  will read Theatre and Performance at Warwick, with Mohammed MIrza also with 3A* 1A going on to study Medicine in Cardiff.

Pupils at Rydal Penrhos School have once again achieved outstanding A-Level results, securing places at some of the UK’s leading universities.

The release of this year’s results marks a significant achievement for the coeducational independent school, which celebrated a 100% pass rate for the fifth consecutive year.

An impressive 37% of Rydal Penrhos pupils attained A* or A grades, significantly higher than the Welsh national average of 30%. 89% of Rydal Penrhos pupils secured A* to C grades.

Among the outstanding individual performances was that of Year 13 pupil Hannah Gao, who joined the Rydal Penrhos Sixth Form two years ago. Hannah earned a flawless 3 A*s and will be pursuing Medicine at Cardiff University.

Head of School Ruby Merrick and 1st XV Rugby Captain Zac Roberts both attained 2 As and a B and will begin their studies in September at their first-choice universities: Ruby in Psychology at the University of Bath, and Zac in Physics at the University of Edinburgh.

Faith Wardle achieved an excellent 2 As, a C, and a B in her Extended Project Qualification. Her mother, Mrs Wardle, said, "I can’t thank Rydal Penrhos enough. It has been the most wonderful opportunity. The support from an educational and pastoral point of view has been second to none."

Gwyn Davies, whose musical talent has long been celebrated within the Rydal Penrhos community and beyond, will continue to pursue his passion after securing a place at the prestigious Welsh College of Music.

Year 12 pupils receiving their results also had cause for celebration, with 100% of those taking A-Levels early achieving the highest possible A* or A grades.

Principal, Tom Hutchinson said: “I wholeheartedly congratulate our pupils on this year’s A-Levels. The results are a true testament to our pupils’ hard work and dedication, and reaffirm that Rydal Penrhos is a place where children and young people fully realise their potential.”

“Of course, none of these successes would be possible without the support of parents, carers, teachers, and staff. Today’s results underscore the strength of our school community; a community that our Year 13 leavers will continue to be part of as they begin university life and join the ranks of our alumni.”

At St. David's College pupils achieved a 97% pass rate across all Level 3 qualifications with nearly three-quarters of grades at A*-C or Distinction*-Merit and 42% of grades awarded A*-A or Distinction*-Distinction.

St. David’s College Headmaster, Mr. Andrew Russell, said: “I’m phenomenally proud of the results received today for our Upper Sixth, and so pleased to witness the incredible joy as they move onto the next steps in their lives. It’s a huge validation of the hard work the staff put in to nurturing and promoting our pupils’ abilities - and of the incredible talent of our pupils – to achieve beyond their expectations.”
