Calls to incentivise ownership of green vehicles in Wales

The Shadow Minister for Climate Change has called for the Welsh Government to support schemes that support the people of Wales in ditching their petrol and diesel cars in exchange for electric vehicles (EV)

During her supplementary contribution in the Senedd, Aberconwy member Janet Finch Saunders said “On the continent, countries such as Germany have doubled incentives for EVs in 2020, offering a 3,000 euro bonus for fully electric vehicles and 2,250 towards hybrids, as well as a 10 year tax exemption and lower VAT rates.

France has also joined the list of European counties to provide EV incentives, offering national producers, such as Renault, a support package to encourage greater EV production.”

Adding to her contribution, the Shadow Minister asked the Deputy Minister for Climate Change:

“Will the Minister back calls for such a scrappage scheme to take place here in Wales and subsequently work with EV companies to move their production operations here so that we can energise highly skilled green sector jobs and promote Wales as a  global green market industry?”

The Shadow Minister is committed to supporting new incentives here in Wales and endeavours to welcome a spike in green energy and technology jobs that can make Wales stand out as a unique investment market for global companies
