Chief Constable's challenge takes to land due to bad weather

If you have been wondering how the nine young people from North Wales got on in the Chief Constable’s Challenge that we featured on Good Morning Colwyn Bay, here's an update.

Crews launched from Portsmouth on Saturday 22 October, with their voyage planned to finish at the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool seven days later. But due to forecasted gale force winds and rough seas in the English Channel and Irish Sea, the decision was taken not to continue the challenge to Liverpool.

Instead, they completed shorter sailings with challenges on dry land before attending a post-race presentation at Liverpool Town Hall, where they received a commendation for taking part.

North Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Allsop, who supported the challenge, said: “Congratulations to all participants who took part, and for doing so under such difficult weather conditions.

“Although it was a shame that they couldn’t complete the full experience, the challenge was all about creating an unforgettable experience for participants and encouraging them to realise their potential.

“Having caught up with the North Wales team on their journey, it was evident to see how they have all grown as individuals and been provided with invaluable skills that will help navigate their way through life.

“Congratulations again to all crew members, and to those representing North Wales Police. You should all be incredibly proud of your achievements.”

Dave Evans PACT Project Manager added: “Well done to all our young people who took part and a great big ‘thank you’ to the team of volunteers from North Wales Police Citizens in Policing Team who have supported them on their journey. I am sure they will all remember this week for many years to come.”
