Club supports to families affected by childhood cancers

The Joshua Tree children’s cancer charity is delighted to have the support of the Wrexham Football Club at their upcoming fixture on Tuesday 21st February.

The Joshua Tree team and volunteers, including Richard Williams, Director of Williams Finance, Paul Hayes, Managing Director of Geotechnics and Ken Skates MS of Clywd South, will be to hand to show their support before and after the event at the turnstiles in helping fundraise for the charity.

The Joshua Tree is a children’s cancer charity providing bespoke programmes of support to improve the emotional well-being and mental health of all immediate and extended family members who are affected by childhood cancers for as long as they need it.

Recent statistics have identified that 166 children and young people were diagnosed with cancer in Wales in 2019, and this continues to increase with population levels. Specifically, cancer rates in Wrexham are 20% higher than in the rest of Wales.

Richard Driffield, Joshua Tree CEO said: “I am thrilled to see the team I support, Wrexham FC, support The Joshua Tree continue their vital work in the local community. The charity has grown considerably in the last 17 years supporting all member of the family affected by a childhood cancer diagnosis and specifically in the community of Wrexham. Over the past twelve months we have received an unprecedented number of new family referrals, of which 10 live in the Wrexham community.”

The Joshua Tree provide bespoke programmes of support to improve the emotional well-being and mental health of all immediate and extended family members who are affected by childhood cancers, across for as long as they need it.

The focus remains at the heart of the charity, to continuing to offer support to the whole family, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, as specifically recognising that post-treatment can be a challenging time, when families are having to adapt to their `new normal` and the charity offers support to help bridge the gap that’s left when the safety net of treatment ends.

To date, over 400 families have been referred to The Charity, 90 of which were in 2022.
