A North Wales housing association has raised more than £8,600 for a hospice providing round-the-clock care to people living with life-limiting illnesses.
ClwydAlyn staff spent the past year organising fundraising events in support of St Kentigern Hospice after the charity was voted its “Charity of the Year” by employees in 2025.
The fundraising drive was led by ClwydAlyn’s Sports and Social Committee and included a packed calendar of events ranging from quiz nights and raffles to a car boot sale and a five-a-side football tournament.
The money raised will help support the hospice’s vital services, including specialist palliative care delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for patients and families across Denbighshire, West Flintshire and East Conwy.
Shaun Hurley, a member of the SAS Committee at ClwydAlyn, said staff had been proud to support such an important local organisation.
“It’s been a great year raising money for such a worthy local cause,” he said.
“We have loved getting to know the St Kentigern team and hopefully we’ll get a chance to work with them again in the future.
“There is a strong synergy between ClwydAlyn’s core values of ‘Trust, Hope and Kindness’ and the invaluable work done at the hospice. We’re very proud to be able to offer support to St Kentigern and hope that this donation will contribute to the amazing work that the hospice does for our community.”
St Kentigern Hospice has been serving communities across North Wales for more than 30 years and provides a wide range of services free of charge, including inpatient care, bereavement support, therapies, family support services and wellbeing programmes.
The hospice relies heavily on fundraising and community support to continue its work, with only around a quarter of its income coming from statutory funding.
Alwyn Mason, Corporate Fundraiser for the hospice, thanked ClwydAlyn staff for their efforts throughout the year.
“Everyone at the hospice would like to say a massive thank you to ClwydAlyn for the unbelievable amount raised during the last 12 months,” he said.
“I was delighted to attend some of the fantastic events and can’t thank everyone enough for the support shown.
“Only 26% of our income comes from statutory funding, the remainder must be raised through the generosity of our community, local businesses and corporate partners.
“This is why we are so grateful to ClwydAlyn for choosing us as their charity of the year and for working so hard to raise so much money, which will help us deliver compassionate expert care every single day, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
Based in St Asaph, ClwydAlyn manages more than 6,700 homes across North Wales, including accommodation for older people, supported housing and domestic violence refuges. The organisation says its work is focused on improving health and wellbeing through safe and affordable housing.
