Colwyn Bay set for Cymru Premier debut next season

On the back of a successful season in the JD Cymru North league, Colwyn Bay have also been granted an FAW Tier 1 licence for the 2023/24 season that will allow the club to compete in the Cymru Premier.

The Bay are title winners of the Cymru North but with rivals Holywell Town not applying, Bay will be promoted to Welsh football's top-flight for the first time.

The Old Colwyn Bay based club returned to Welsh football in 2019 having played in the English pyramid system for 35 years, with the club reaching the National League North.

“This is a momentous decision for the club and one that rewards the hard work of club officials and volunteers not just this season, but also since we returned to the Welsh system in 2019," Colwyn Bay chairman Neil Coverley said:

“And without the support of the local community we would not have been able to achieve this.

“There’s plenty of work between now and next season, not least finishing this season on a high.

“But we look forward to what will be a new challenge and a new chapter in the club’s history."

The club have averaged crowds of over 600 for home games this season, the highest in the Cymru Leagues.

Work on a new 1,000 stand at the 4 Crosses Construction Arena is nearing completion, which will take the ground's seating capacity to over 1,800.
