Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken out about the need for constituents to make every effort to attend pre-booked GP appointments.
The Member’s calls come after it was disclosed by Mostyn House Medical Practice, Llandudno, that 454 patients did not attend their appointments in September.
The practice has asked people to cancel their appointments if they are unable to attend so that the slots can be offered to others.
Mostyn House saw 4,982 patients, handled 7,003 calls, and issued 24,290 items via prescription in September.
Supporting the medical practice, Janet said: “I would like to praise the hard-working team at Mostyn House. The fact that they have seen around 5,000 patients is clear evidence that they are one of the pillars of our community.
“Whilst non-attendance at flu clinics has contributed to the high percentage of patients not attending appointments, everyone should make an effort to contact the practice should they not be able to attend.
“All of us have a responsibility to each other. By not attending an appointment we have arranged, we could be delaying care being provided to someone who is in urgent need of support.
“Our GPs and their medical teams are under huge strain, so I ask that all of us play our part to help ensure that practices can operate in the most effective way possible”.
