Conwy County Borough Council is highlighting the wide range of careers available in local government after joining a new interactive platform designed to inspire the next generation of public sector workers.
The council is one of 22 local authorities featured on Careers in 360, a virtual careers platform launched by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) to help attract, develop and retain talent across the Welsh public sector.
Aimed at a digital-first generation, the platform offers an interactive gateway into local government careers, allowing users to explore career pathways, apprenticeships and live job vacancies through a virtual environment that’s available around the clock.
Local government is one of the largest employers in Wales, with councils providing hundreds of essential services ranging from education, social care and environmental services to highways, planning, housing, leisure and libraries.
The platform aims to raise awareness of the breadth of careers available, many of which people may not associate with local authorities.
Councillor Hannah Fleet, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Human Resources, said: “Councils are responsible for so many services that affect everyday life, and as a result there’s such a wide range of opportunities and careers that many people aren’t aware of. Careers in 360 provides an opportunity for young people to browse these opportunities and offers an insight into potential career paths.”
The initiative aims to connect local authorities with more than 350,000 learners across Wales, helping young people see themselves in a career in public service while supporting councils in recruiting the workforce of the future.
