Conwy lifeboat crew save person in early hours

A person was rescued from the water in the early hours of this morning after a major emergency response was launched along the Conwy estuary.

Volunteers from RNLI Conwy Lifeboat were called out at around 2.30am following reports of someone shouting for help. Their inshore lifeboat, Enid and John Hislop, was launched immediately to search the river and harbour.

Crews quickly located the casualty near a hotel in Deganwy, having drifted with the tide, and brought them safely back to the lifeboat station.

The rescue involved a coordinated effort with HM Coastguard, North Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service. Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Team supported the operation on shore.

A staff member from Deganwy Marina was first on scene and helped pinpoint the casualty’s location, significantly speeding up the rescue.

Once ashore, the individual was given immediate care by lifeboat volunteers before being handed over to paramedics.

Conwy Lifeboat praised the swift teamwork of all agencies and their own volunteer crew, as well as members of the public who raised the alarm.

The incident highlights the risks of coastal waters, particularly at night and in strong tides. Anyone who sees someone in danger is urged to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
