Conwy's Band D council tax payers will see a rise of 3.8%

Residents in Conwy will see their Council Tax increase from April onwards after members of the local authority met earlier today.

With increases in the contribution towards the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner and Town Councils within the county,  a band D payer will see an overall increase of £66 a year - a 3.83% rise.

Cllr. Brian Cossey, Cabinet Member for Finance, Revenue & Benefits, introduced the budgetary report to the meeting of the Council.

He said, "Financial planning is a continuous process in Conwy, and services and portfolio holders have been preparing for the estimated financial challenges for 2022/2023.

“The consequences of the pandemic are far-reaching and have created significant demands on services, which despite a generous settlement from Welsh Government, has made addressing the resource shortfall difficult this year.”

“Nonetheless, the £7.843 million shortfall will be addressed by: reducing business cases; making budget reductions (service cuts, efficiencies and raising additional income); increasing Council Tax; and by using reserves and balances.”

Cllr Cossey added: “However, despite these constraints, we’ve been able to allocate £11.7 million within this budget for specific projects or areas of work, including free school meals, homelessness, social care, Additional Learning Needs and mobile recycling centres.”

The Council then went on to approve the budget and set the Council Tax for 2022/23.

Councillors supported the recommendation that Conwy County Borough Council’s part of the Band D Council Tax for 2022/23 be £1438.15, which is an increase of £54.65 for the year - equivalent to £1.05 extra per week.
