Conwy County Borough Council has worked with colleagues at Royal British Legion, stakeholders and young people to put together a video tribute to mark this national moment of remembrance to honour heroes of the past and present.
Conwy County has a strong history of supporting the Armed Forces and Veterans, so much so that Llandudno was chosen on behalf of the Nation as the host for National Armed Forces Day 2018.
Due to the current lockdown, public gatherings that were planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe couldn't take place, but the Council did not want to let VE day pass without marking it.
The video features Laurence Binyon’s 1914 poem, ‘For The Fallen’, which is an enduring tribute to all those who have lost their lives in conflict, being read aloud by Armed Forces veterans, young people and politicians.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Conwy County Borough Council Chairman, said, “We are reminded daily of the sacrifices being made to keep us safe by heroes and we could not let the 75th Anniversary of VE Day pass without paying tribute to all those who have fallen so that we could be safe.”
