Council thanks residents for offers of help to refugee families

The Leader of Conwy County Borough Council has thanked local residents for their offers to assist refugee families from Ukraine.

Cllr Charlie McCoubrey thanked all those who’ve contacted the Council or their local councillor with offers of accommodation, financial donations and supplies.

He said: “We know that many people in Conwy want to do all they can to help these families in their hour of need.

“A lot of people have been in touch wanting to offer accommodation or even their spare bedrooms, and although we don’t know how the process will work in Wales yet – we’re happy to take names and contact details of those wanting to help.

Cllr McCoubrey explained: “We’re working with partner organisations about supporting the people fleeing from Ukraine. We’ve been meeting with the Welsh Local Government Association as part of a collective response in Wales to ensure a joined-up approach.

“We’re awaiting updates from UK Government and Welsh Government with details of how we can directly support these efforts. There is still uncertainty with regard to the level of assistance required, but the Council is prepared and ready to help.”
