Crusaders legend Tommy Johnson commits to season

North Wales Crusaders fullback Tommy Johnson, the all-time record holder for appearances, goals and points, has extended his stay with the club by another season.

Johnson featured for Crusaders in their very first match back in 2012 and has been with the club ever since, going on to record an impressive 186 appearances, 67 tries, 630 goals and 1,528 points.

After being a constant feature in the North Wales side between 2012 and 2018, the 30-year-old missed the entire 2019 campaign through injury, but his return was like a new addition to the squad for head coach Anthony Murray.

The 2021 season was arguably one of his best in a Crusaders shirt as he helped the club finish third and was named joint Coach’s Player of the Season.

When you mention North Wales Crusaders, one of the first names that’ll no doubt spring to mind is Tommy Johnson.

On his new deal with the club, Johnson said: “I don’t know where the years have gone.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time at Crusaders and I’m made up to sign a new contract.

“I think the club’s in a really good place at the minute and, after the season we’ve just had, I think we’ll learn a lot from the experience of the play-offs.

“The squad’s relatively young and all the lads here are really hungry for success.

“I’ve played in this league for a long time and, if there’s any advice and guidance I can pass on, I will.

“I think you’ve got to draw from your experience and, as you get older, it’s role you naturally take on.

“We’ve had some great ups and a few downs along the way, but it’s been fantastic to play for this club and I can’t wait for 2021.”
