Dangerous school run parking sparks police action

Police in West Conwy are cracking down on parents parking illegally and dangerously outside schools.

The goal is to create safe areas for kids to cross the road.

During patrols which have already begun, those caught parking on zigzag lines or yellow markings will face prosecution.

Officers are working with schools to keep young people safe, and are urging parents to always follow the rules when dropping off and collecting their children.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We have been patrolling local primary schools over the last two days due to issues around illegal parking.

"What we want to see, and what you as parents should also want to see, is clear areas for your kids to safely cross the roads to get to school. Unfortunately this is not the normal view when we don't have a visible police presence at the schools which is not acceptable.

"We have had frankly shocking excuses such as "Well I am running late", "There is no parking nearby" and "Do you not have better things to do".

"To be clear, we are trying to work with the schools to keep your kids safe. Anyone who does not think that is a priority, particularly if you are a parent or guardian, should think again.

"Anyone who is a parent or guardian and is so inconsiderate of others safety, or there own kids safety, should be ashamed of themselves. The message could not be clearer.

"Do not park on zigzag lines of any colour, do not park on double or single yellow lines, do not park on pavements, do not park across driveways or drop kerbs. Your kids would be able to remember this so you should be able to do the same.

"For the vast majority of responsible and considerate parents and guardians, we thank you for your common sense and thoughtfulness."
