The leader of the Welsh Conservatives has accused the Labour Government of failing people in Conwy and Denbighshire.
Figures revealed by MS Darren Millar, claim that over two and a half thousand more households have signed onto Universal Credit since July 2024, across the two counties.
Mr. Millar also states that unemployment has risen to 4.7%, its highest in four years, with over 160,000 lost since the Autumn Budget.
Commenting, Darren said: “Everyday I hear from constituents who are struggling to pay their bills, and now these figures have confirmed just how bad the situation is.
“After Labour attacked businesses with higher taxes and more regulation, it was a sad inevitability that it would result in fewer employment opportunities here in North Wales and more people signing onto Universal Credit.
“Unemployment has jumped to 4.7 per cent, its highest level in four years, inflation is hitting people's pockets, and the number of people on payroll has plummeted by over 164,000 jobs since the Autumn Budget.
“The last Conservative Government saw 4 million more people in work, the unemployment rate nearly halved, and real wages had growth for thirteen months in a row.
“With more tax rises coming this Autumn to pay for Labour’s failures, it is people and businesses who will be left paying the price.”
Welsh Labour have been approached for comment.
