Denbighshire’s decision on 20mph speed limit slammed

Welsh Conservative leader and MS for Clwyd West, Darren Millar has criticised Denbighshire County Council for not reverting any of the 20mph roads back to 30mph despite public backlash.

Out of 202 proposed road exceptions, none will be changed back.

Mr. Millar expressed disappointment over the decision claiming that the council 'had taken the easy option'.

He said: “Like many other people in Denbighshire reading this news today, I am extremely disappointed by Denbighshire’s decision.

“It is quite frankly astonishing that they don’t feel that out of the 202 lengths of roads proposed, that even one should be reverted to 30mph.

“I feel that once again Denbighshire County Council have taken the easy option, the one that causes them the least amount of work. We have seen it with the rebuilding of Llannerch bridge, which they have decided not to do, and now this.

“Neighbouring local authorities have, or are in the process of, reverting roads back, it is therefore extremely disappointing that Denbighshire have decided to do different.

“I have always said that in many places, 20mph is appropriate. Lower speed limits outside schools, and hospitals are necessary. However, the impact this blanket approach is having on people lives should not be ignored.

“I will be writing to Denbighshire County Council outlining my concerns and urging them to review this decision.”
