Dennis leads the charge in kids' hospice half marathon

A man who shall soon turn 80 years old is leading the charge in fundraising this month

Dennis Smith from Abergele is running the Conwy Half Marathon on Sunday 19th November and raising money for Ty Gobaith and Hope House hospices.

Dennis’ efforts will form part of the Final Moments Matter campaign which sees every penny raised over a 36hr period in November, doubled by a Match Funding pot put in place by generous local businesses and individuals.

Having successfully completed the same race last year, the widower and his running companion, Ilona Kurta are hoping for a faster time.

“Training is going great and I’ve just completed a 10.5 mile practice run so I feel quite good and am happy now.

“We’re hoping for some fair weather and to get around quicker than last year,” said Dennis.

The sporting friends recently came to visit TÅ· Gobaith for some extra inspiration.

Dennis said: “Visiting the hospice was brilliant and a great insight into where the money is needed and the wonderful services that are available to local families.

“I’ve been telling people all about the Final Moments Matter campaign and how their kind donations will be doubled – the response has been fantastic.”
