Doorstep testing 'urged' as South African Covid is in Conwy

A person from Conwy and one from Anglesey is among three people in Wales who have caught the more virulent South African strain of Covid-19.

This is despite all individuals saying they have had not travelled to the country or to places where they could have been more likely to catch the virus.

Now some Welsh politicians are calling for widespread local testing despite the NHS Wales saying there is no evidence of community transmission.

Speaking last night on the BBC, Janet Finch-Saunders who is MS for Aberconwy said health chiefs should consider doorstep testing in the areas affected whilst Plaid Cymru's Adam Price urged Welsh Government and NHS Wales to consider entire community testing where there were known cases.

It is expected that more discussion about Welsh Government's approach to the discovery of the South African strain will happen later today.
