Eat Cake Week's sweet success raises thousands for sick children

Cake lovers have whipped up more than £8,500 for Ty Gobaith and Hope House children's hospices during Eat Cake Week.

From office bake sales to village hall and garden tea parties, hundreds of people in North Wales Shropshire and Cheshire have come together to turn cake into care and support seriously ill local children.

Some of the flan-tastic events included A R Richards in Market Drayton raising £400 through week-long events, while Hope House supporter Clara Powis, from Shrewsbury, raised an impressive £751 holding an event at her home with cake and mocktails and Lloyds Animal Feeds in Oswestry raised £188.

One of the hospice ambassadors 14-year-old kart racer Charlie Pritchard, held an Eat  Cake sale at Northop Hall Cricket Club raising £280.

Meanwhile, at Cheshire Oaks, Kirsty Usher from Mowgli raised £225 with a staff cake sale, and NXTWeb Digital Marketing from Chester raised £150.
