A local hospice has been buoyed by the genorosity of communities and businesses across North Wales.

Last year St David’s Hospice received over £20,000 from collecting cans displayed in businesses and across the community of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

The green and purple donation boxes, which can be found on the counters of many shops, newsagents and businesses may not seem like a major fundraiser for the Hospice and yet each year thanks to the generosity of those who donate their loose change, the money raised will make a huge difference to end of life care services in North West Wales.

St David’s Hospice Community Fundraiser Adrian Owen said: “We have almost 600 collecting cans on display across the three counties. We are extremely grateful to everyone who is kindly showing their support for their local charity.

“Our collecting cans are a really easy way for people to support us. Very often the loose change that people donate at tills is not really missed by them – it’s pennies, usually – but it makes a big difference to us.

“Behind the scenes in the Fundraising Dept., we have a fantastic team of volunteers who help with the distribution of the cans to all the towns in the area and also count the coins once we have collected them back in. Without them we would be lost, and we are extremely grateful for their time.”

Two local businesses recently received their certificate for the outstanding total raised in 2021.

One Stop Convenience Store in West Shore, Llandudno have raised £432 from their collecting cans displayed on the till and Post Office counter and Spar & Tandderwen Bakery in Betws Y Coed raised £495.05.
