Spectators are being welcomed back to watch North Wales favourite rally, the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally that takes place this coming Saturday.

After months of talks with relevant bodies, the organising team at North Wales Car Club have reached an agreement which they hope will please rally fans who have been starved of live action during the pandemic.

Joint clerk of the course Alyn Edwards explained: “Since early January this year we have been working with the Welsh Government, Conwy County Borough Council Safety Advisory Group, NRW and Motorsport UK to plan two events at the same time - one with spectators and one without.

“Thanks to the current position with Covid-19, we are delighted to be organising an event fit to welcome spectators.

“To ensure the event went ahead and spectators can attend we have had to devise a track and trace system. However, this remains subject to the Covid situation remaining stable. We must also reiterate that everyone must adhere to any guidelines in place at the time and follow the marshals instructions at all times.”

Social distancing is encouraged when viewing on the stages, should spectators fail to obey the Safety Car or marshals instructions and there are groups of spectators gathering, then the Clerk of the Course may be forced to cancel the stage in order to comply with covid regulations.

Spectator tickets will be on a pre-sale basis, with spectators able to purchase a vehicle car parking ticket on line via the website.

At the car park entrance, in exchange for the ticket they will be given a programme. The ticket will give access to one car park only.

Edwards added: “We must extend our thanks to all those in the Welsh Government, Conwy Council Safety Advisory Group, NRW and MSUK for their help and understanding.”

And for those who can’t attend the event, the team have put in place live coverage which will bring the action into their homes.

Julian Porter and Chris Rawes from the WRC and FIA ERC coverage, Killian Duffy and Andy Walsh from Onthepacenote, the Special Stage Rally Review team, and Sideways Media will be broadcasting from every stage end with two full stages live.

This is in addition to the British Rally Championship and Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship broadcasting from their channels.

Additionally, media students from Coleg Llandrillo will be broadcasting from the service area throughout the day.

The Cambrian Rally is part of the British Rally Championship which holds a series of stages around the UK. The North Wales stage consists of thrilling, world class forest stages run from the Llandudno based conrol centre. The winner will be crowned on the Llandudno promenade at the close of play.
