Father and daughter take to the skies for hospice

Plunging 15,000 feet from an aeroplane to raise money for a local hospice charity, sixteen-year-old Erin Hughes and father Andy from Penryhn Bay completed a tandem skydive for the first time.

The fundraising challenge was to raise funds for St David’s Hospice in memory of Margaret Wynne Hughes, their mother and Nain, who received end of life care at the Llandudno adult hospice.

Andy, who saw the charity skydive day advertised in the local press said:

“It was Erin’s idea, but initially she was too young. As soon as she was 16, we booked it. It was great. I would suggest to anyone who is fit and healthy enough to do it, it’s a must!

“As a family, we are so grateful for the care Mum received at St David’s. She attended the Day Care Unit once a week, where she loved the complementary therapies such as the massage and then she was cared for as an inpatient.”

Through kind donations from friends, family and work colleagues the pair raised £1710.93.

Ysgol Bryn Elian pupil, Erin said; “The skydive was amazing, I definitely want to do it again!

“Our family experienced at first hand the wonderful care the Hospice gives. Nain spent her last few days there. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and we are really pleased with the amount raised.”

St David’s Hospice is an independent charity that helps support more than 1,000 people across North West Wales every year. All their services are free of charge and the charity relies on the community.
