First Team and Academy action this Sunday for RGC

It's a landmark weekend at Stadiwm Zipworld on Sunday as RGC begins their campaign with the opening game against Merthyr.

RGC have named their side with winger Rhys Tudor making his competitive debut.

The North Walian winger joined in the summer from RAMS RFC, and slots into to an experienced backline, Afon Bagshaw also makes his return in an RGC jersey.

A number of new faces are on the bench, with hooker Rhodri King, prop Jess Williams and Sam Williams covering the back-row, with Oscar Lennon adding the cover at scrum-half.

Also both RGC Age-Grade teams are in action again on Sunday as they play their second round matches in this year's Regional Age-Grade Competition.

For the Under 18s who face the Scarlets on the 3g at Eirias Parc ( KO 1pm), Sunday's game gives them a chance to put a disappointing second-half performance against the Blues last week behind them. Something that Head Coach Andrew Williams is very aware of.

"As a group the boys were all clearly disappointed with the manner and margin of the defeat especially when you consider that there was only a 3 point margin at half-time. As it is with young boys its vital that we review our performance and learn from the experience.

"Its the first home game this year for the group and with it being a precursor for the seniors it will hopefully see us have a good number of RGC supporters cheering the boys on."

The Under 16s are in South Wales on Sunday at Ystrad Mynach (KO 2.30) and will be looking to build on their win last weeks against the Cardiff Blues South.  Although Head Coach Gav Hodgkinson has made changes to the team he is confident in the ability of his squad as a whole.

"We have a squad this season of 39 players and it has always been our intention to give all of them as much game time as possible in the opening bloc of RAG matches.

"Sunday's game will give an opportunity to a different group of players to show what they can do against what I am sure will be a strong and skillful Dragons side. The squad have trained well this week and are very much looking forward to Sunday's challenge."
