Fundraising for boy whose life will leave a legacy around world

A grieving family are paying tribute to their 'little fighter' of a son with an epic fundraising walk.

Charlie Secker was just five years old when he died in December 2024 after suffering with a very aggressive and rare brain tumour.

Originally from the Birmingham area, the Secker family now of Rhyl, spent the last few weeks of Charlie’s life together at the TÅ· Gobaith children’s hospice in the Conwy Valley where they could be supported by their skilled staff and make final precious memories.

On Friday 18th April 2025, dad Rob Secker plus friends and family will walk a marathon distance from Conwy to the summit of Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon to raise money for the hospice.

Mum Leanne said: “Nobody fought as hard as our Charlie. He was our little fighter. He was the boss in our family.”

Titled Secker’s Sea to Summit Walk, Rob will be joined by lifelong friends Dale Perkins and Michael Webb-Craddock and a crowd of up to 40 others are expected to join with Leanne and Charlie’s brother Jack will be there to provide support and motivation.

“We’ve made special t-shirts to wear on the day and will take collection buckets.

“We’ll be meeting the walkers at various points along the way with vital supplies,” said Leanne.

Speaking of the family’s time at TÅ· Gobaith, Rob said: “The hospice felt like home.

“Knowing that help is there and we could just open the door for nursing care was priceless.

“Everybody there, the nurses, care team and kitchen staff were all amazing and helped us make lasting memories with Charlie Bear as we called him.

“His grandparents were able to come and visit too which was wonderful.

“We wanted to do something to say thank you and support TÅ· Gobaith and the Joshua Tree who have both supported us so much.”

The Secker family moved to North Wales in 2022 when Charile was diagnosed with an ultra-rare Central Nervous System Tumour with BCOR Internal Tandem Duplication.

Leanne said: “Charlie just loved being by the sea and we wanted him to enjoy every last moment we had left together.

“Dr Bailey and Dr English at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital just would not give up on Charlie and made it possible for him to have Cyber Knife treatment. He was the only child in the world at the time to have had it.

“By doing this, Charlie has left a legacy for other children around the world who are now able to have it.

“We’re so proud of him.”
