Gwrych Castle - The new location for ITV's I'm a Celebrity?

A local landmark and historic attraction could be helping further raise the profile of North Wales if reports in the national press are true.

Gwyrch Castle between Llanddulas and Abergele has been reportedly chosen by producers of ITV's popular I'm A Celebrity as the location for the next series.

According to reports in the Sun newspaper, bosses at ITV will be paying up to a million pounds to film and broadcast live from the grounds and buildings of the historic castle.

It is thought that the location will give an exciting new dimension to the series which has been traditionally set in Australia.

Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic which has hit Australia particularly hard, producers have been searching for a location in this country and it is thought that North Wales was one of the first choices due to its uniqueness and location close to ITVs Manchester studios in Salford.

Following years of neglect, asset-stripping and vandalism, the once magnicent Gwrych Castle was reduced to a roofless shell and has been in a state of ruin for the past twenty-five years.

In 1997, in response to devastating fires and the eviction of New Age Travellers, the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust was founded with a stated remit to restore and protect Gwrych Castle and its designed landscape for the benefit of the public.

Today, the Trust dedicates its efforts to opening up opportunities for a diverse range of visitors to connect with the designed landscape and its magnificent built heritage through a series of restoration projects.

An official statement from ITV Studios about the location of the series is expected soon.
