Police and volunteers from Haven of Light and Soroptimists have been visiting hotels and hospitality venues in Llandudno to offer information and support around the risks of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, grooming and other abuses.
Officers have passed on information for staff to enable them to identify any concerns or signs of abuse or exploitation including:
- How to spot the signs of potential abuse by your guests
- Who to report concerns to within the hotel
- What to do about these concerns as a business
They will also be offering further training sessions for all staff.
Detective Inspector Dafydd Curry said: “Recent enforcement activity undertaken by the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA), in partnership with North Wales Police, serves to remind us that labour exploitation does take place within the hospitality industry in North Wales.
“North Wales Police and our partners will take positive action where we receive information of labour exploitation occurring within our communities.
“Building on that enforcement activity; it is important that we continue to work with our partners to raise awareness that people can be exploited anywhere. The hospitality industry is one we want to work with so it is safe for staff and customers alike and difficult for would be perpetrators to operate.
“This action has been taken in partnership with the Soroptomists who are valued volunteers with skills and experience in tackling Modern Slavery and with the GLAA”
