Llandrillo students rock for children's charity

Charitable Music Technology students from Coleg Llandrillo organised two separate events in order to raise money for, and awareness of, the children's charity NSPCC.

One group created an interactive music installation - The Music Emporium - for audience members to interact with music technologies in a wide variety of formats. One example involved an escape room, where attendees had to use a variety of coding on a musical instrument to escape.

Another initiative involved visitors playing the actual sound effects for a skateboard video clip. All donations taken on the door were donated to the NSPCC.

The second group of students put together a multi-genre concert, namely The Varyfied Festival. They had to source local bands and acts, sort out a suitable space to play, design a range of marketing materials and provide refreshments, as well as managing ticketing and album sales.

Students walked around with charity buckets, and a percentage from each ticket was donated to the NSPCC.

Tutor Jon Crowther said: "The students have been remarkable from start to finish. They created really chilled-out environments in a very professional and organised manner. All students worked hard to ensure the events ran smoothly and were effective, whilst raising valuable funds".

The charity provided the students with banners and other promotional materials to assist in raising awareness.

The students' programme leader, James Taylor, presented a representative from the NSPCC with a cheque for over £100.
