Llandudno Coastguard in a big weekend of rescues

Over the weekend, volunteers from the Llandudno Coastal Rescue Team responded to multiple incidents.

This included assisting a casualty with a suspected broken ankle at Kinmel Bay and a stranded person on a sandbank at Prestatyn. They also helped a casualty with a knee injury at Llandudno beach and responded to reports of people cut off on a sandbank at Conwy Morfa.

A spokesperson for the Llandudno Coastguard explained: "We were called out twice to assist our friends at Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team. The first incident was to a casualty with a suspected broken ankle on the beach at Kinmel Bay. This person was assisted from the beach and handed over to our friends from Welsh Ambulance Services for further treatment.

"As soon as we were stood down from this incident we were called to a report of a person stranded on a sandbank at Prestatyn. On arrival we quickly identified the casualty who had made his own way ashore against a rapidly rising tide. We confirmed that the casualty had suffered no ill effects from his experience and he required no further assistance.

"On Sunday afternoon we responded to a casualty on the beach at Llandudno with a knee injury. The casualty was unable to bend his knee or bear weight on his injured leg. We splinted the injured leg and stretchered the casualty up to the promenade where we continued our medical checks. The casualty and his family made their own arrangements to get to a hospital.

"Whilst this incident was ongoing we received a report of another casualty near the steps to the North of the pier. We were able to quickly locate the casualty who had received abrasions to her leg from barnacle covered rocks on the beach. We dressed her wounds and carried out medical and welfare checks and it was agreed that there was no need for the casualty to receive any further medical treatment.

"We were called out three times over the weekend to Conwy Morfa, once to a report of a broken down vessel and twice to reports of people cut off on a sandbank. Our friends from Conwy Lifeboat were able to assist the broken down vessel and towed it to a safe mooring at Deganwy.

"At one point there were as many as 15 people on a rapidly disappearing sandbank near the Conwy Morfa car park. Fortunately they all made their way to dry land where we checked their welfare and offered some safety advice."
