Both of Llandudno’s lifeboats were launched to assist in a large-scale, multi-agency search effort yesterday afternoon.

The operation focused on searching the nearby headlands and surrounding waters.

The search involved North Wales Police, Llandudno Coastguard, Bangor Coastguard, and Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 936.

Inshore lifeboat Dr Barbara Saunderson was the first to launch at 3:38pm. After completing its search, the vessel returned to the beach at 6:00pm. All-Weather Lifeboat William F Yates followed, launching at 4:12pm and concluding its search at 7:38pm.

Once the lifeboats were washed down, refueled, rehoused and the crews were debriefed. The team left the lifeboat station at 9:30pm after a dedicated effort to support the operation.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "As the process of recovering and refuelling the lifeboats was being concluded, lifeboat crews and shore crews were delighted to be informed that there had been a successful outcome on land to the search.

"Lifeboat crews are fully committed to searches of this nature at the request of HM Coastguard where there is real concern about persons having potentially entered the sea. These situations can be particularly time critical in failing light and darkness."
