Local police in Llandudno are successfully reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour through various initiatives. The Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin visited the town to witness these efforts first hand, including high-visibility patrols and multi-agency meetings to address youth crime.
A specialised task force has been established in the town to tackle crime, similar to successful teams in other areas. The community is encouraged to report any incidents of anti-social behavior to ensure a quick response.
The news comes during Neighbourhood Policing Week across the country, a week of action beginning 23 June aimed at highlighting the positive impact that neighbourhood policing has on communities throughout the year by reducing crime and keeping people safe.
During his visit on patrol with PC Jonathan Williams, the PCC visited parts of the town including Craig-y-Don, the Promenade, Mostyn Street, Church Walks, the Hospital Estate and the Trecreuddyn Estate. During the visit, Mr Dunbobbin heard how a number of initiatives from North Wales Police are having a positive effect in reducing crime and ASB in the town, especially among young people.
For example, high visibility patrols are continuing in those areas where youth ASB demand is higher in order to prevent and deter offences. Police are also having regular multi agency meetings with partner agencies to work together to address youth ASB and crime trends.
A group of officers called the Clear Hold Build Tasking Team, similar to ones which have seen success in reducing crime in Rhyl and Bangor, started in Llandudno in May and will increase to 8 members by the end of June.
The Force is also continuing to work with local councillors, political figures and the wider community to gather information and intelligence and to increase communication with the public through the West Conwy Coastal Facebook page.
Andy Dunbobbin, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales, commented: “I am pleased to support Neighbourhood Policing Week and the local teams who work so hard to keep us all safe.
“Llandudno is the Queen of Welsh Resorts and I am determined that it should remain as crime free as possible during its busiest months of the year. During my visit, I was pleased to hear about all the projects already underway in the town to cut crime and look forward to them continuing to have a positive effect over the months to come.”
Inspector Mathew Kelly-Smith from North Wales Police commented: “We are pleased that PCC Dunbobbin was able to visit and hear about the many initiatives underway in Llandudno to combat ASB and other forms of crime. Summer is a busy time for a prime resort like Llandudno and policing naturally steps up to meet this increased demand. However, whatever time of the year it is, it is important that local residents continue to report incidents of ASB, as this enables us to respond and deal with matters quickly.
“As a local neighbourhood policing team, we aim to be visible, to work effectively with partner agencies and to tackle key priorities such as ASB and ending domestic violence that have such a negative impact on our communities.”
