Manager Mike Wilde thanks departing Colwyn Bay players

Colwyn Bay Manager Mike Wilde has thanked the players departing the club following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Cai Owen, Joe Williams, Joel Giblin and George Nugent leave with the thanks and best wishes of everyone at the club.

Mike said: “Cai has been a fantastic servant to the club over the years and a valuable member of our squad this season to achieve our goal of winning the league. We all wish him the very best in the future.

“Joe Williams has been an integral part of our success this season, his versatility and reliability when playing has been invaluable.

“It’s unfortunate that with his work commitments and family life he is unable to commit for next year in the Welsh Premier League.

“We also want to thank both Joel Giblin and George Nugent for their contributions over last season, both played a big part in our success.”

The Manager added that further squad details would be announced in due course.

Midfielder Cai was signed from Rhyl in January 2020 and made his debut against Ruthin Town in the  curtailed 2019/20 season.

The versatile player scored six goals in 122 appearances for the Seagulls in two spells in between a short stay at Caernarfon after the Cymru North season was cancelled due to Covid-19.

During the Bay’s Cymru North title winning season in 2022/23 Cai won the JD Cymru North player of the month award for February 2023 after some impressive performances. He came through Bangor City’s academy, making his senior debut at 16 under Neville Powell, before moving to Llandudno.

He then joined Rhyl on loan in 2018 before making a permanent move and being voted Supporters Player of the Year at the end of that season.

Cai said: “It’s been a pleasure. Six years at this amazing club two promotions and a League Cup trophy. Unfortunately due to family circumstances with newborn baby on the way I am unable to commit to the long distance travelling next season.

“Thanks to all the staff over the six years and to the Bay fans you welcomed me with open arms and supported me home and away.

“You are truly one of the best fan bases in the whole of Wales. I wish you all nothing but success and I’m sure to come up and catch a game next season. Up the Bay.”

Joe was originally signed by Craig Hogg in July 2021 following six seasons at Caernarfon Town, where he had won two Cymru Alliance titles with the Canaries in 2015/16 and 2017/18, before spending three campaigns with the club in the Cymru Premier. He was previously with Glan Conwy, Conwy Borough and Llandudno.

In his first spell at the Bay over two seasons the experienced defender was a member of the 2023 JD Cymru North winning side and also won  a WBS North League Cup winners medal before a switch to Flint.

He returned to the Bay last summer and added another JD Cymru North title win and made a total of 78 appearances of the Seagulls in his two spells.

Having graduated from the club’s academy, Joel made his first team debut as a second half substitute at Holyhead during the 2022/23 season and from then on featured regularly in the first team squad as well as the  Under-19 Development squad.

Joel spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Cymru North side Ruthin Town and scored two goals in 14 league appearances. Last season his involvement was curtailed by injury, which restricted him to two substitute appearances.

George joined the Bay from Vauxhall Motors in January 2025. He is a product of the Tranmere Rovers academy and made two senior appearances for the Prenton Park club. He previously had spells with Witton Albion, Prescot Cables and Trafford before joining Motors in the summer of 2023.

The forward made 10 appearances for the Bay in all competitions during the second half of the season.
