An online petition has been launched to save Colwyn Bay library services within the existing building in the town.
As part of a consultation on the future of library services in Conwy, it has been suggested that the existing library in Colwyn Bay could close and move into the Coed Pella council building.
The consultation which also looks at library services elsewhere in the county is expected to go live in May.
In the meantime, an online petition has been set up to encourage the local authority to think again about their proposals and plans.
The petition which is hosted on iPetitions claims "that the community is outraged and wants the library to stay where it is and become a hub.
"The library is a warm, friendly well-run, and much-loved service, to move it to Coed Pella would destroy everything that is wonderful about the library.
"Also, parking is a major problem at Coed Pella and existing staff have already been told to park on residential streets due to lack of parking, so adding more services to it is madness."
The petition goes on to say claim that the council's defence of not being able to afford roof repairs in flawed.
"The council claims it needs £175,000 of 'essential maintenance' which the council claims the cannot afford, and this is why it has been earmarked for closure, however, the council has just paid £682,000 to fix a leaky roof on a new build at Porth Eirias! So they have the money when they need it!
"It has also been stated while the plan is for the Library to move to Coed Pella, the current library will be used for another council service, so won't they have to do repairs then and won't it cost £175,000."
Conwy County Borough Council responded. "The Council welcomes petitions and recognises that petitions are one way in which people can let us know their concerns.
"At the end of May, we will be consulting on the draft Library and Information Strategy. The strategy sets out what needs to be done over the next five years to make sure Conwy’s Library and Information Service continues to offer a good quality service, this includes assessing the potential of bringing customer facing services in Colwyn Bay together by relocating the library to Coed Pella.
"Petitions are taken seriously by Council Officers and Members as a measure of local interest in a given matter. The public view is taken into account when a decision is being made, as we will do in this case."
