Police getting set to engage at the Eisteddfod

The countdown to Wales' most important and prestigous cultural event is underway and our boys and girls in blue are getting set to make the most of their prescence.

With plans well underway for a range of activities and attractions at this year's National Eisteddfod from Saturday, those who are attending this year’s event are being invited to visit the Force engagement stand on the Maes and speak to representatives about the issues which matter to them.

Throughout the week Police Officers, staff and volunteers will be available to discuss matters ranging from keeping your home secure, staying safe on the roads and how to spot the signs of modern day slavery.

Visitors will also hear about current initiatives and campaigns – including meeting some of the Force’s specialist teams such as Roads Policing, Dog Section , Drone Unit and SchoolBeat – the All Wales School Liaison Core Programme.

Amongst the activities which will be held over the week will be an opportunity to meet some of the Chief Officer Team, speak to the Recruiting Team about job opportunities and learn more about the Police Cadets.

“The National Eisteddfod is the largest annual festival in Wales and one of Europe’s oldest cultural festivals which attracts thousands of competitors and visitors every year, so it’s a fantastic platform for us to engage with visitors,” said Chief Constable Carl Foulkes.

“This will be my first Eisteddfod and I’m very much looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere and speaking to our partners on the field.

"There will be lots of exciting and fun things to do on our stand so if you are planning on visiting this year, why not pop in for a chat.

“Close engagement with our communities is key to making people feel reassured and that we are listening to their needs and myself and my team very much look forward to the event.”

To ensure children don’t get lost, free wristbands for parents to write their telephone numbers will also be distributed during the week and these will be available from the stand, situated on stands 407 and 408.

The stand will be open from 9am until 5:00pm each day. Officers, PCSO’s, Special Constables and Police Cadets will be on patrol on the Maes all day and in the evenings as well as the town centre and you will also be able to speak to them at the Police Caravan situated behind the Pavilion.
