A man who stole around £4,000 worth of copper cabling from BT premises in Porthmadog has been jailed.

Thomas Keenan, of Montgomery Road in Walsall, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday, September 11, where he was sentenced to 13 months in prison after previously admitting burglary.

The 24-year-old was one of three people who trespassed onto the BT premises in May 2023.

The group stole six wooden drums containing copper cabling, with the total value estimated at around £4,000.

Police say the theft highlights the wider impact of copper cable crime on businesses and local communities.

PC Stephen Jones said copper theft is "not a victimless crime" and can have real-life consequences for businesses and members of the community.

He said police take reports of burglary seriously and will continue to pursue those responsible and bring them to justice.

Keenan will now serve a 13-month prison sentence.
