RGC power past Quins with second-half display

RGC produced an impressive second-half performance to secure a 41–23 victory over Carmarthen Quins at Stadiwm Eirias on Saturday, climbing to sixth place in the table after leapfrogging their opponents.

The hosts made the ideal start, taking an early lead when Connor Dever crossed at the back of a driving maul, with Billy McBryde adding the extras for a 7–0 advantage.

Carmarthen Quins responded strongly, levelling the scores after powering over from close range following sustained pressure. In difficult conditions, with heavy rain and swirling winds affecting handling, the visitors edged ahead through an Ifan Davies penalty.

The match became a stop-start affair, lacking rhythm as both sides struggled for control. RGC showed glimpses of attacking threat, with Caio Parry and Sam Jones making breaks, but often without support. The Quins extended their lead when Ilan Phillips capitalised on a kick ahead to score, leaving the home side trailing at the break.

After the interval, RGC returned with renewed purpose. Following a period of pressure that saw Sam Jones held up just short, McBryde forced his way over and converted his own try to restore the lead at 14–13.

Momentum firmly shifted in RGC’s favour as Sam Jones turned provider, setting up Delwyn Jones for another try. McBryde then extended the advantage with a superb long-range penalty from inside his own half.

The visitors briefly threatened a comeback, capitalising on a loose ball to score, though a missed conversion left the score at 22–18.

RGC responded emphatically. Caio Parry crossed on the left wing before a moment of quality from Dion Jones created another try, his incisive break and pass sending Sam Jones over to score in a flowing move.

Although Quins added a further try through Gabe McDonald, RGC remained in control, with their backline increasingly finding space and causing problems.

The final say went to the home side, as Osian Burt powered over from a driving maul, with McBryde converting to cap a convincing 41–23 win.

The result sees RGC move up to sixth place, boosted by six tries and a maximum points haul in front of their home supporters.
