RYA Sea Survival course held at Llandudno Lifeboat Station

An RYA Sea Survival course was recently held at Llandudno Lifeboat Station for a group intending to participate in the infamous Fastnet Race for yachts which is due to take place in August.

This particular course was designed to include a first-hand look at rescue assets and equipment, notably the station's all-weather Shannon class lifeboat and D class inshore lifeboats.

A practical talk and demonstration was given by Station Coxswain Graham Heritage and Inshore Lifeboat Helmsman/All-weather lifeboat Navigator Mike Jones supported by Deputy Launching Authority Alun Pari Huws.

Graham and Mike explained the lifeboat perspective of recovering casualties from the water, dynamic risk assessments they undertake in various weather conditions, towing techniques where this is an appropriate form of rescue and dealing with medical emergencies.

Stuart Gibson, the RYA accredited trainer delivering the course, said "I am very grateful to personnel at the station for accommodating the course and for the insight, expertise and evident experience shared with the delegates who found it most useful."
