Surprise savings for North Wales rail travel from January

North Wales train fares are set to fall by a guaranteed 10% from next month after a surprise announcement from Transport for Wales.

TFL who took over the running of services from Arriva, originally said it would cut ticket prices by an average of 7% in North Wales overall and 10% on some South Wales routes.

However a change of heart now means that the North gets the benefit of cheaper rail journeys to, from and within the North Wales zone.

In addition there will be a free under 16 and under 11 ticket for those travelling with a fare paying adult subject to terms and conditions.

North Wales received a boost a number of weeks ago with the very first out-of-season train operating on Sunday on the Conwy Valley line.

This was part of significant improvements aimed at increasing access to a 7 day a week train service to as many travellers in Wales as possible.

Transport for Wales (TFL) claim that the new timetable increases services by 40% and the additional 186 Sunday services will provide an economic boost throughout the country, providing essential links between cities, towns and villages.

Additional seasonal services will now run all year along the North Wales Coast as well as increased frequencies on valley lines.
