A talented young golfer who has regularly hit the headlines for some amazing achievement  is back at competitions and achieving some notable results.

Charley Simpson, who is a year 10 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, balanced his online learning schedule during the coronavirus school lockdown with improving various elements of his golf game from the comfort of his back garden.

This is something that has clearly benefitted Charley considerably ahead of his GCSE examinations next year and his ability to hit the ground running when he got back on the course.

The Wales U16 international faced a daunting proposition during his first event on the Blue Championship tees at Conwy Golf Club for the prestigious Bob Jones Cup.

It was a 36-hole open medal event, and after a promising first round, Charley managed to raise his game further during the final stretch of the competition.

Charley mastered the windy conditions exceptionally well to shoot the best round two score, and this resulted in the Rydal Penrhos Golf Academy member finishing second overall.

He followed this up with another strong showing at the Douglas Johns Trophy, which took place at Harewood Downs Golf Club in Buckinghamshire.

The single-digit handicapper tackled one of the toughest courses in the country with aplomb, eventually hitting a 73.

Last year Charley was ranked the country's number one under 14s golfer.
